Struggling to figure this one out, the touch screen (capacitive) works under windows 7 fine, and also on the windows 8 installation pages but once it boots into windows 8 it doesn't work (although the en works fine throughout all of it).

I have tried installing windows 8 from scratch, fully updating drivers etc though windows update, tried unticking usb power options in control panel, also through the Samsung update utility, tried installing windows 8 as a upgrade from a working installation of windows 7 too. I have updated the bios to the latest version. Ran the windows 8 touch config bios application. Uninstalled the usb hubs in device manager and reinstalled using ones from Samsung. Now I'm at a total loss as for what I can do? I just don't understand why it works fine in windows 7 etc but the second windows 8 is installed its no longer working (in system properties it says pen enabled, not pen and touch - win W7 it said pen and 8 point multitouch or something like that.) Anyone got any ideas???

Tearing my hair out now lol. Unfortunately the XE700T1a ships with Windows 7 Pro so there's no official media (bar a windows 8 installation disc I bought separately - that said, Samsung state they now recommend upgrading to Windows 8).

Problem is as the device works as intended using the shipped OS, there is no warranty claim for me. The only reason I used windows update was because that what Samsung have said to do, after which it says to use their update tool (according to them, this currently is the only method of getting the Windows8 drivers for my device). I'll give them a call in the morning to see if they can shed anymore light onto the matter. For now I have gone back to shipped version of windows 7 pro where the multitouch shows up on system properties and once again works. On another note re:Samsung_HD_Tech's reply, have tried uninstalling the drivers in device manager and tried the only 2 version I could find to no avail (assuming it is indeed the Intel 6 Series/C200 Series USB Host Controller drivers that are causing the issue - which seems to be the case in all other touch or pen related windows 8 issues I've read about for this device - though most who have an issue state the deivce is listed as not installed correctly in device manager, and mine shows up as working fine).

Yes it does seem like windows 8 is working fine bar the capacitive touch. I guess the odd thing is there are many out there who have upgraded their series 7 slates without such touch related issues yet with a few encountering driver issues with the usb bus causing touch or pen problems. I will see if its a know issue with Samsung or possible hardware fault with the tablet though, as at the end of the day, it was this specific model of tablet which was used as w8 demo machines back at the pre release stage of the OS's development. There are many queries / issues such as this out there on other forums. The solution is simple; the problem is with the graphics driver(s). This SAMSUNG tablet here is a XE700T1A - A02FR (it's a French version). No matter, I'm sure it's the case with other designations. This study is from a fresh install. Windows 8 OEM or Windows 8 PRO OEM. When first installing, you notice that your touchscreen is working!

But when windows 8 install finishes it's stuff, it's not! So what has happened? Go Windows Update and let it churn away (about 546.9 gb (36 updates'ish)). After Windows 8 has digested that lot, it will reboot (or ask you to). Still no Touchscreen function after re-boot!

Go windows-icon key + X, then select manage peripherals (or something like that). Scroll down to graphics cards and click the arrow-head on the left of that entry.

It will probably say INTEL(R) HD Graphics 3000 or something similar. Next job, delete that driver! (or if you are squeamish, siimply de-activate it).

Touchscreen works. And probably, if not a new INTEL(R) HD Graphics 3000 driver appears, then something called Graphics Family Intel (R) Microsoft Corporation WDDM 1.2.will have installed itself. Best to stick with the Graphics Family HD Intel(R) Microsoft Corporation driver (I guess it's a generic one). If you don't uninstall / delete the 3000 driver, it will try again to install itself. Result: No Touchscreen.

Whilst some success can be achieved, I have another SAMSUNG slate here which is being VERY troublesome. I do hope that before the next time Samsung gets groovy with a new windows operating system, that they would take some time to resolve issues such as this. Since starcraft 2 performance was horrendous I decided to manually install a driver from the intel site. Little did I know it (probably.might also have been windows update) killed my touch screen! It could have been because it had a pending windows update that needed to run and I typically would hibernate and reboot. Windows did its typically, please do not turn off your computer while windows updates. And after it rebooted my touch screen was back!
