Hello Phil, you can call me Julian, thank you for helping me solve this. To answer the first question, I thought by starting in safe mode, the anti-malware would detect it easier. Other than that the computer starts fine. All of the scanners (ESET, Malwarebytes, AdwCleaner) didn't find anything suspicious. Julian: Thank you for permission to address you by your first name. The logs look good. Are you still seeing the pop-up?

According to the information, both Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and AdwCleaner should remove the pesky nuisance, which is not really a virus, but rather adware, which is more innocuous than viruses, hence the reason why your anti-virus does not detect it. Let's try scanning with the Junk Removal Tool. Please download to your desktop. • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts. • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'. • The tool will open and start scanning your system.

• Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications. • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open. • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message. Except for the modifications that JRT found made to your SearchScopes registry keys, I did not see any evidence of possible adware being installed on your computer, other than the Best Buy PC app. That leads me to wonder whether certain websites that you are visiting might be 'hosting' this adware as a webpage-specific pop-up rather than one which is originating in your browser? For example, do you see those pop-ups when you are on the Google home page? On which website do you see these pop-ups?

It is reporting blocking a malicious site each time I go there. That site is probably infected, and the malicious redirection may be coming from that site. I know that you have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) Free on your computer. I would like to have you try a test for me, if you would be so kind.

Please go and follow the steps to do a clean uninstall of MBAM Free. Then I want you to install a new version of MBAM, but this time, select the 30 day free trial of Premium (if you don't want to buy it, it will automatically revert to the Free version after 30 days). Please go to that bebop site and see if you get a similar warning. More importantly, when you exit your browser, do you still see the pop-up?

I am guessing, among some other possibilities, that the MBAM 'blocked' site is opening a new window, behind the scenes, that you see when you exit your browser. I use both MBAM Premium and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Premium, to complement my Bitdefender Total Security. The great thing about MBAM Premium is the real-time protection. It prevents malware that it can identify from being installed, unlike the Free version that detects it only when the user runs a scan after the malware has been installed. It is easier to prevent infections than to clean them up afterwards. If that does not resolve your pop-up issue, then I will refer you to the Virus, Trojan, Spyware and Malware Removal Logs Forum. There we can run more sophisticated scan and fix tools to try and locate the critter and eradicate it. Don't be concerned because I will stay with you. I am at the point in my training where I can work on those logs in that Forum, under supervision.

So, if we need to go there, I will make arrangements to pick up your logs and also snag the supervisor who I have already consulted about your situation. You are in good hands.

That is indeed the simple explanation that we both wanted! Based on the scans we have done, I am not detecting any malware on your computer. The 'bebop' website is infected, of that I am certain, and it is opening up a hidden webpage when you exit your browser and doing what else, we don't know. I suspect that it is not doing anything bad to your computer because something would have shown up in the scans. I think basically it just wants to sell you a worthless program, that can also be dangerous, particularly for brand name laptop computers that have proprietary drivers. Nevertheless, PLEASE monitor your computer for the next week or so, and reopen this thread if you don't need any further assistance. I will be notified that you have posted, if you do post.
