I have tried every solution known to man and still unable to get the Canon Pixma MX870 to scan after upgrading to Windows 10. After an exhaustive number of steps taken myself, I spoke with Canon support and an hour later, they suggested I call Microsoft. Two hours on the phone with a tech in India, who I am sure knew less than me, he installed Windows 10 Home (when in fact I had Windows 10 Pro) and did not select keep apps so gave me a downloaded product with loss of all my programs. I was unable to get him to stop the install as he had my machine while he had me on hold and it was too late for me to break the connection.

So another two hours later or thereabouts, I had to reimage my machine with the post Windows 10 backup I had taken last weekend. A further two hours later, I was able to bring my computer back to where it all started yesterday. This morning I thought I had hit 'pay dirt' by connecting via USB and being able to scan.

That was short lived as I am now no longer able to scan at all. Not sure what's going on as I upgraded to Win 10 with an identical PC and MX870 in August with no issues at all. I was also able to upgrade to Win 10 on my laptop and all Canon scan and print software works using drivers I installed this past March. As it sits now, I can control the scanner from my laptop via network connection but unable to scan on the PC that just had the upgrade to Win 10 on November 1.

It's pointless calling Canon again as they're convinced it's a Win 10 ports and exception issue and I am not going to attempt to get some foreign based kid playing with my machine again while supposedly being a Microsoft technical wiz. When I say I've tried everything, I have, so am now appealing top this forum and Microsoft for anything that we may have missed.
