I found that disabling the two O2micro OZ711MP1 MemoryCardBus-Controllers solved the problem for the boot process. If I enable these O2micro controllers afterwards everything is working fine, even the Atheros adapter. But booting with the O2micro controllers enabled will result in a nonfunctional Atheros adapter.

Any ideas why this occurs under win8.1 but not under win8? Greetings from Berlin - Matthias.
