Recently upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10 - only to find my Canon Pixma MP495 multi-function printer/scanner/copier no longer recognised. It worked fine as printer and scanner on 8 and 8.1. Downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Canon - all seemed good, the printer worked fine.however, tonight I've tried to scan a doc - Windows says no scanner is attached? Brother Mfc 7420 Driver For Windows 10 on this page.

Have re-downloaded and installed the Canon driver - it's still not seeing the scanner function. Can't seem to find a solution to this.

Thanks, Microsoft! Anyone come across this problem?

Any help appreciated. Hi Stuart, Welcome and thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. This issue may occur due to compatibility issues. Please follow the below methods and check if it helps: Method 1: I would suggest you to install the drivers in compatibility mode from the below article of Andre Da Costa and check if it helps: Method 2: Also try to run Hardware Troubleshooter if the issue persists. The Hardware Troubleshooter is an automated tool which checks the hardware connected to the computer for any known issues and provides the details on how to fix them. Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter.

• Press “ Windows Logo” + “ W” keys from the keyboard. • Type “ Troubleshooting” in the search bar and press “Enter”. • In the “ Troubleshooting” window, click on “ View All” on the left pane. • Click on “ Hardware and Devices”. • Click on “ Advanced” and then click on “ Run as Administrator”. • Click “ Next” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process. Hope this information helps.

Please post us if you need any further assistance with Windows. Hi StuartLunt, with different multifunction models some works with TWAIN and others both TWAIN and WIA (what I understand both are interface between scanner and computer that lets you acquire images, but I may be wrong with the meaning:-)). How about if you open Windows Device Manager (using keyboard, press Windows logo key + X key + M key) is the scanner listed under Imaging Devices. If listed as part of Unknown Devices, possible driver installation did not finalize. If listed but unable to acquire using TWAIN, use WIA for testing, open Devices & Printers, right click the printer icon and if there is an option called Scan try testing it.

If you plan to reinstall the multifunction driver, how about after uninstalling check in C: Windows Twain-32 folder if the scanner is listed (default file in this folder is wiatwain.ds only) try moving it out or cut and paste it to another folder before reinstalling the driver (note: if the multifunction is connected via USB, turn the power Off, then uninstall). Reading some info from Canon sit, for wireless connection, some of the Canon models use IJ network tools and IJ network scanner, if the scanner is not selected in IJ network scanner you will not be able to acquire or scan. Hi, I had the exact same issue after updating to Windows 10. The fix for me was to go to Control Panel Hardware and Sound Devices and Printers.

Here I could see the MP495, but when I right clicked on it, there was no Scan options in the context menu. I clicked on Add Device on the top left. Windows scanned and found the printer with a long name that included 'WS' at the end. I installed this and it added the printer, but with WS appended to the name.

I can now right click and scan from the new device. I have Windows 10 and tried to install a new Canon Maxify 2320 printer/scanner and I could not get the scanner utility to work from my laptop. To scan PDF files, I had to use a USB thumb drive. The scanner utility was incomplelte and it 'sort of' worked. I could scan TIF or JPEG from my laptop wirelessly but not PDF files.

I searched and I could not find the missing the actual full scanner utility called the 'IJ scanner utility'. After hours of Googling, screwing around, installing and uninstalling the latest software I finally called Canon's Maxify help line. It took the Canon support guy about 15 minutes to fix the problem after then took over my laptop. It is an issue with Windows 10 having recognition issues with the default printer selection combined with some Canon software tweaks. The Canon IJ scanner utility was definitely missing prior to the Canon support rep accessing my computer.

He uninstalled the printer software and installed another version that worked. Bottom line is if you have a new Canon printer with Windows 10 and you can't activate the scanner utility, call the Canon support line and they can get it fixed. If you have an older Canon printer and are out of warranty and upgrade to Windows 10 and your scanner won't work I'm not sure what you do other than call Canon and see what a tech support call costs. Good luck - I wasted 4 hours today running this down and it's a pain.
