I have had the same problem with the loss of the DVD Player. My Laptop is an ACER Aspire 5553 and the DVD drive which came with the laptop is a Hitachi-LG Super Multi DVD Drive - HL-DT-STDVDRAM Model GT31N. I cannot find any drivers from ACER or on the Hitachi/LG websites.

The DVD drive works perfectly in Windows 8.1, but after installing Win 10, the DVD drive does not show. If I add the standard CD-ROM driver from within Win 10, the drive still does not work. I rolled back to Win 8.1 and the DVD drive worked perfectly. I reinstalled Win 10 and it does not work.

Right click the blue Windows 10 icon in the bottom LH corner - go to File Explorer - low down on the LH column of options is bootcamp 'C'. The disc I had inserted was shown as 'E' and was able to eject with ease. I then tested it to safely eject my camera and see that was in 'F'. I trust this is of use to you. The only file Asus has for my DRW--24B1ST-ATA drive is the firmware update, which I have installed. Unlike the person you replied to, my computer does list this drive as being there and being healthy/working. Only, it doesn't.

It always did have the problem where I had to use a paperclip to open the tray when there is no disk in the drive. But it DID read & Write in Windows 7. Now it doesn't. As it happens you seem to have missed another of my replies where I said I had now fixed the problem. To clarify I upgraded Windows 7 to 10 (had a lot of problems I won't bore you with) and now running well and happy. However, I was unable to eject a dvd as I couldn't find the screen I had been familiar with. Fortunately I am operating from Apple Mac with Windows on a partition so moved to Apple where, not surprisingly, the disc was showing on desktop so ejected it from there. Then clicking around Windows again I discovered where I should be: Right click Windows start - file explorer - Low on LH column options for drives. And from here I am able to safely eject DVD's, Camera and USB's and just now tested them again. So really I never had a drive problem - it was more of not knowing where to go.

Finally thank's for the additional knowledge of using Windows key + X on the keyboard. Amd Radeon 5450 Driver Windows 10 more. This is an update to my post on 16th Aug 2015. I trawled the internet and came across a piece of software called DriverMax from. I scanned the software with Norton Internet Security which gave the package the all clear, so I installed it and ran it. I used the free settings and the DriverMax software found the SATA driver was missing. I downloaded their recommended driver and my DVD drive (and eject button) is now working perfectly as it was in Win 7, Win 8 and Win 8.1.

I hope this helps other people, but I believe the Microsoft Migration from 8.1 to Win 10 has problems if it does not migrate all existing drivers properly! Anyway, for me this solution has worked.

And have now found the correct screen I had access to in Windows 10.

Wife and I have two new nearly-identical computers running W10. One displayed the empty cd/dvd drive in File Explorer, the other one did not.

Comparing the ‘folder options’ under ‘view’, I found the one that displayed the empty drive had ‘hide empty drives’ checked while the computer that didn’t display the drive had the same entry uncheckedso I checked it. To my surprise, it workedboth show the empty drive! (Both computers have ‘show all folders’ checked but I’m not sure it makes a difference whether the drive is displayed or not.) Is it possible this is a Microsoft software error in labeling or interpreting the ‘hide empty drives’ checkbox (rhetorical question)? Hi I have tried all methods above and nothing seems to work, i do have the DVD show up in device manager and then it disapears and re-apears it do’s that all the time i have the dvd drive connected. Even tho the dvd is showing up in device manager there is no IDE not even when i click on show hidden devices and in the reg part there is no upper and lower filters to which i have tried creating a controller0 in the atapi folder in the registry but this do’s not make any difference i’m at a loss at what to do, please could you suggest something.
