Windows 10 Keyboard Driver Corrupted

Since upgrading to W10 the keyboard becomes unusable at login and beyond. The keyboard plugs directly onto the mother board & works on bios setup. The mouse still works but as it is on a USB port is probably not relevant. Looking in device manager the keyboard driver appears to be corrupt (code 39).

I have tried to reload the driver by first uninstalling then reinstalling without success then by disabling/re-enabling. I have tried to use IOLA system mechanic to install the latest driver without success. I have even tried disabling and uninstalling then crashing the system off by removing power cord. Whilst the system was without power I removed the cmos 3v battery for 20 minutes. I then replaced the battery and cold booted, set the clock so I know it was a true cold boot. The system still insists on loading the corrupt driver itself and doesn't give me the option of loading an alternate driver. Please help me resolve this problem as I am having to type using the on screen keyboard.

Dear Michael I have finally resolved this problem. Unfortunately none of the advice you gave worked but I was grateful for it as it convinced me the problem could be fixed.

After 3 days trying and in desperation I rolled back to W8.1, The problem was still there. So knowing I could roll back if I wrecked the registry, I once again updated to W10. When the upgrade completed the keyboard was working again?

I think this is a good example of how fragile MS operating systems are and how resilient they are to being fixed. Kind regards Chris. Chris, Reference: Follow the steps below to Uninstall and reinstall the driver Uninstall the driver from Device Manager, and then scan for new hardware to install the driver again. • In the device's Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall. Ricoh Multi Card Reader Driver For Windows 10. • Open Device Manager, click Action, and then click Scan for hardware changes. Follow the instructions.

Note You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. However, sometimes, it will open the New Hardware Wizard which may ask for the driver. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor's website. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact tnmff@microsoft.com. Dear Mr Happy, I have tried all that you suggested without success. I downloaded the file from Ryan T Adams but the registry refused it access? I have tried rolling back to W8.1 but that hasn't cured the problem either.

Consequently I don't think a refresh would work. I am upgrading again to W10 so that if anything goes wrong when I go into the registry I will still have the option to rollback to 8.1 and hopefully correct my meddling.

Thank you for taking the time to advise me and if all else fails I have the option of buying a USB keyboard which may work as the mouse is on the USB and is OK. Kind regards Chris Steed. Dear Michael, Thank you for your advice. When I try steps 1-3 the machine seems to reload the corrupt driver as it reports that the driver loaded but is unusable?

I have tried rolling back to W8.1 but that doesn't solve the problem either, so I don't think a restore or even a reset will fix it. Consequently I am upgrading to W10 again because that gives me the option of rolling back to 8.1 if I mess up. I am going to try and by a USB keyboard as the mouse is on the USB and is working OK.
